GA4 UTM Tracking and Campaign QA
Follow a campaign link from construction to the landing page, and separate URL checks from analytics and revenue verification.

Verify the link before investigating the report
When a campaign looks missing, first establish what was actually distributed. Copy the final link from the email or advertisement, not from the planning spreadsheet. Inspect source, medium, and campaign, and check for a second copy of a key with a different value.
A redirect can discard the query string, and a copied fragment can put the tracking values after # instead of in the query. The builder cannot inspect a redirect chain because it does not request your destination. Open your own test landing page and confirm the resulting URL separately.
Keep the reporting question specific
Decide whether you are investigating the session that came from a campaign or how a person was originally acquired. These are different questions. Google’s campaign URL documentation points to Traffic acquisition for examining incoming campaign traffic; choose dimensions that match your question.
UTMCraft does not access a GA4 property. A “no issues” result means the local URL checks passed, not that an analytics event arrived. Consent, tag configuration, browser restrictions, filters, and reporting processing can affect what you observe.
Test record Distributed URL: https://example.com/class?utm_source=weekly_digest&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=class_oct26 Final landing page: record the URL after redirects Expected campaign: class_oct26 Analytics observation: record separately after testing
Paid search needs its own configuration check
Before adding manual UTMs to a Google Ads destination, check the account’s auto-tagging and its Analytics connection. Manual campaign labels are not a substitute for platform integration. Preserve existing click identifiers while inspecting a live campaign link.
The URL Cleaner deliberately offers a mode that removes click IDs. Use that for producing a clean sharing URL when appropriate, not as a routine preparation step for a paid advertisement. Do not invent or copy a click identifier from another visitor.
Ecommerce requires more than a campaign label
A tagged product link does not create a purchase event or validate revenue. Test product selection, checkout, and confirmation using the store’s approved test process. Confirm that the analytics setup records the intended event and value independently of whether the URL looks correct.
Keep a small QA record with expected destination, expected campaign, test date, and observed outcome. If the purchase crosses domains, ask the analytics owner to inspect that configuration. Adding more UTM parameters is not a general fix for missing purchase attribution.
Before you publish
- Inspect the link that customers actually receive.
- Check the landing URL after redirects.
- Separate local URL validation from GA4 delivery.
- Verify ecommerce events and ad-platform configuration independently.
